sentinel

Email integration

Receive alerts by email when a monitor is overdue.

How it works

The integration will only be triggered when a backup is overdue/ failed or has recovered.

Subject: db-production is OVERDUE

"db-production" is OVERDUE - no successful backup before the deadline.

Last backup: 2026-07-14 03:00:12 +0000
Expected: At 03:00 AM Europe/Sofia (+1h grace)

1. Add the address

Open your monitor, click integrations, then configure next to Email, then enter the address to alert. It does not have to belong to a user of your account — an on-call alias or a ticketing inbox works.

2. Confirm the address

Sentinel emails the address a confirmation link, and sends it nothing else until someone opens that link and confirms. Until then the integration sits in the list marked unconfirmed, the test button reports Address has not confirmed yet, and real alerts skip it.

If the mail did not arrive, press resend on the row. That mints a fresh link and invalidates the previous one.

To stop the alerts, delete the integration from the monitor's integrations tab.

3. Test it

Press test on the row to send a real alert email through the same path a genuine one takes. The result appears under the row.

Delivery

Alerts are retried up to 5 times with a minute between attempts, and each address retries on its own — one bouncing address never re-fires the channels that already delivered beside it.

Mail comes from noreply@boringbackup.com. Allowlist it if your filters are strict; an alert that lands in spam is an alert you did not get.
